Invisalign Q&A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a teeth-alignment system that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gently move teeth into optimal positioning. It’s a great alternative to traditional metal braces and can do wonders for your smile and your confidence.

The Invisalign system uses state-of-the-art digital imaging to understand the current contours of your smile. The patented software then uses those specifications to craft a customized treatment plan for you.

You’ll be able to see what your smile looks like at various stages of the treatment process, so you know what to expect.

What alignment issues can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign can correct most of the same issues traditional metal braces can address. Some examples include:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Gapped teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Mix of baby and permanent teeth
  • General misalignment

While Invisalign is a versatile tool, it isn’t right for everyone. If a different approach would be a better fit for your needs, Dr. Karren helps you consider all the available options with you to enable an informed decision.

How do the aligners work?

After your initial visit, a dental lab crafts your first few sets of aligners. You wear each set for a couple of weeks. The clear plastic trays fit snugly over your teeth, gently moving them into better positioning.

You wear your aligners around the clock, removing them only to eat and complete your oral hygiene routine. It’s important to wear your aligners as advised since the system only works when the trays are in place.

When you switch to a new set, the process begins again, moving your teeth an increment closer to your best possible smile.

You might notice the aligners feel more snug in the first few days after putting them in. They become more comfortable as the days pass and your teeth continue to shift.
